FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions about eyelash extensions...

What are eyelash extensions and how are they applied?

Eyelash extensions are single synthetic lashes applied directly to the natural lash, close to (but not touching) the lash line with a semi-permanent bonding adhesive. A single extension is applied to a single lash, leaving the eyelids to move freely. They are applied carefully, one by one using specially designed tweezers. The whole process normally takes 1 – 2 hours depending on how many lashes are applied.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

As long as six weeks – as the eyelash extension generally lasts until the natural lash falls out in its natural cycle. However it is advisable to have some infills applied approximately every 2.5 - 3.5 weeks (depending on how well you take care of them) to make sure your eyelashes always look fabulous, as by this stage some would have fallen out as new lashes have grown through. How long your eyelash extensions last also depends on how you care for them (i.e. by removing makeup correctly, not thrashing them with heaps of mascara, and not tugging/pulling at your eyelash extensions). Some clients who take extra good care of their lashes get 4+ weeks before they need infills!

Why do I need infills if they last up to six weeks?

The eyelash extensions fall out with your natural lash cycle - which is 6-8 weeks, so very gradually - just a few here and there as new baby lashes come through. After about 3 weeks you will start seeing little gaps where the old ones have fallen, and new ones are coming through - so at this point it's a good time to get infills, so your lashes always look nice and full.

How much do eyelash extensions cost?

A standard full set of eyelashes, consisting of around 50-55 lashes per eye costs $110, or for a glamour set $140 for around 70-80 lashes per eye applied. It really all depends on the look you are hoping to achieve. Infills generally cost between $50 - $80 , depending on how many lashes you have lost.

Do eyelash extensions damage your natural lashes?

Not at all, as long as they are applied correctly. The eyelash extensions come off when your natural lash falls out, and so long as an appropriate weight extension has been applied, your natural lashes will grow through as normal. Please listen to the technicians' advice about how long/heavy you should go if you have naturally thin or sparse lashes. Don't try to remove the eyelash extensions yourself - as this could easily damage your natural lashes, as the adhesive bond is extremely strong.

But I have a friend who said her lashes were damaged by lash extensions?

Inexperienced technicians or those who rush (beware beauty salons who do not specialize!) are apt to apply lashes that are too heavy/clumped together which can definitely result in damaged lashes. Our aim at Lady Lash is to give you beautiful lashes all the time, with no damage to your natural lashes. We customize the lashes so they are the right weight and thickness, and apply them carefully, one by one, so that your natural lashes remain as healthy as ever!
If you are still concerned, and are a little lash-obsessed (don't worry, I am!), I recommend using a growth formula that helps strengthen and condition your natural lashes. We stock Max2 plant-based growth serum in our salons, which is a great product and does not damage the extensions.

Is having eyelash extensions applied painful?

No. I am often asked ‘are eyelash extensions painful?’ and the answer is no – not if applied properly! The eyelash extensions are applied directly to the eyelash, so there is no contact with the skin. It may feel a little unusual the first time, but once you get used to it, it should be so comfortable that you may drift off to sleep! Lady Lash uses high quality relatively fume free glue, which does not burn or sting, unlike cheaper products. People with extremely sensitive eyes or sinus problems may get some watering and slight stinging at the end, but this subsides within seconds.

Will eyelash extensions irritate my eyes?

No - once your eyelash extensions are applied, they will feel just like your normal lashes - you shouldn't feel any difference. The eyelash extension is bonded to the actual lash, not your eyelid skin, so it feels just like your normal lashes. One extension is applied to each lash individually, so your eyelashes can move freely. You should be careful not to roughly rub your eyes though, as this can damage the extensions could make them a little uncomfortable.

I have had bad extensions applied somewhere else and would like them removed and some new ones put on - is this possible?

In most cases, yes - but if you have had particularly bad extensions done somewhere else (particularly overseas) we cannot guarantee that we will be able to remove them or apply new ones. It depends on how bad a state your lashes are in. If there is an awful lot of glue and many lashes fused together, it can take some time to remove the extensions gently. If the bad extensions have irritated or infected your eyes/eyelids Lady Lash reserves the right not to perform the procedure, and may refer you to initially seek medical advice.

Are eyelash extensions safe when pregnant?

Generally speaking, eyelash extensions are a safe and non-invasive cosmetic procedure -Lady Lash uses a high-quality, low fume adhesive which is manufactured specifically for cosmetic use near the eye, and the adhesive does not actually ever touch your skin - as the extensions are glued to the eyelash hairs. Allergic reactions to the adhesive are very rare (1 in several thousand) and when they do present, are easily treated. In saying this, we do not recommend that pregnant women who have never had eyelash extensions before test out the procedure during their pregnancy. The reasons are two-fold - firstly, the lash extension procedure requires you to lay flat on your back for over one hour; a position that is not recommended for  women in the advanced stages of pregnancy. It also requires that you lie quite still - which can be hard if you're heavily pregnant! Secondly, if you were unlucky enough to have an allergic reaction, your doctor may not be able to give you the required treatment due to your pregnancy, prolonging the reaction. However - if we have been doing your lashes here at Lady Lash and you become pregnant, there's no problem continuing with the extensions - just let us know so that we can make sure you are comfortable at all times!

I have made a booking to have eyelash extensions put on. Is there anything I need to do beforehand?

The main thing is to have clean eyes and eyelashes, free of makeup - especially mascara. Some mascaras contain oils that can prevent eyelash extensions bonding correctly. Be sure to use an oil-free makeup remover if removing makeup, and don’t use any oil or petroleum based products on or around the eye area for 48 hours prior (such as Vaseline or moisturizers). For more info see ‘Before your appointment’

Can I wear eye makeup with my eyelash extensions?

Yes, you can. Eyeliner and eye shadow are fine - you just need to be a little gentle. We don't recommend that you apply mascara to your eyelash extensions, as this can cause them to clump together and may contain oils that weaken the adhesive bond on your eyelash extensions, so they will not last as long. If you are intent on wearing mascara, Lash Lady stocks Max2 Volume Up mascara made specifically for use on eyelash extensions – see our **heavy mascara usage is not recommended - we may not be able to infill your extensions if there is too much mascara coating the lashes, and may need to apply a new set**

What about removing eye makeup?

You must use an OIL FREE makeup remover, as oil based removers will damage the adhesive and could make the eyelash extensions fall off prematurely. Lady Lash stocks a high quality makeup remover that is formulated specifically for eye lash extensions.

Can I swim/shower/ get my eyelash extensions wet?

Yes. In fact this is one of the best things about eyelash extensions - you will have pretty eyes ALL the time - when you wake up, straight out of the shower, out of the pool. Just don’t rub them or use detergents or soaps and they will last a long time.

Can you be allergic to eyelash extension adhesive?

Like all cosmetic products, there are some individuals who may be allergic to this particular adhesive. Allergic reactions are extremely rare however, and subside normally as soon as the extensions are removed. If you have extreme latex/band-aid allergies, you may be at higher risk of a reaction. If you have had an allergic reaction to any eyelash extensions before (swollen, puffy eyelids and under eye area) we do not recommend getting lash extensions again -as you will be allergic to most adhesives. If you do have an allergic reaction, you must seek medical attention and we will need to remove the extensions as soon as possible.

Are the materials you use safe and good quality?

Yes - the eyelash extension adhesive we use is almost completely fume free, medical grade, and safe for your eyes – so no pain and burning! It is also very long lasting. The eyelash extensions used are the highest quality on the market, and are available in all sorts of lengths and thicknesses, customized to suit you! All equipment is sterilized before each use.

Can everyone use eyelash extensions?

Almost everybody can use eyelash extensions to increase the appeal and look of their eyes. The difference will be instant – your eyes will look sparkly and refreshed immediately! As the glue is applied directly to the eyelash, and does not touch the skin, there is very rarely any issue with allergic reactions.</p>

Can I wear contact lenses/glasses with my eyelash extensions?

Yes, of course. However you may find it more comfortable to remove contacts before your appointment, or bring your contacts case so you can remove them immediately prior.

Will I look like a drag queen with my eyelash extensions?

No - not unless you are already a drag queen/would especially like to look like a drag queen. Lady Lash will customize your lashes to suit you. You can have just a few at the corners, for some added sparkle to your eyes, a full set for a natural, heavy lashed look, or a glamour set for a more dramatic, made-up effect (ideal for film/theatre/models, or special events like weddings). Lashes come in many different lengths and curl types, to suit a range of looks. We are confident that you will be very pleased with your lovely new lashes!

What if I get eyelash extensions but just don't like them?

They can be removed using a glue-dissolver if you decide that they are not for you. But we're sure this won't be the case! Take a look at our Before and After gallery to see how fabulous they look on people of all ages.

I am a man. Can I have eyelash extensions too?

Of course you can dahlink! Everyone can enjoy eyelash extensions for healthier and more beautiful looking eyes. We customize the eyelash extensions to suit your face and personality, and can do a more subtle set for gentlemen wishing to try out eyelash extensions.
